SAINT-PAUL’S PLACE

Party

Save the date!

Sint-Paulusplaats is the missing link between Schippersstraat and Koolkaai.

Sint-Paulusplaats in Antwerp was a Greek neighborhood for decades. It was teeming with Greek sailors after WWII but also with artists who came to enrich the nightlife in the many Greek cafes, restaurants and ‘bouzoukia’ (night clubs/dance halls).

The inescapable former police station has housed restaurant Athene for half a century, the only Greek catering monument, a ‘leftover’ from a super vivid period.

On this square, we plan to conclude the project festively with performances, Greek food and dance. On the square, the keepers of the Greek musical heritage will condense all the energy of the former bouzoukia!

There will also be some musical tributes to illustrious predecessors. This celebration will continue on the weekend
5/6 oktober 2024.

Several dozen musicians, active in various genres of Greek music, will perform at Sint-Paulusplaats for two days. All lovers of Greek dance can come and enjoy themselves. There will be continuous dance initiations for anyone who wants to try it out. For children, we will provide a workshop.

Programme

Bouzoukia also coincides with the kick-off of the exhibition ‘Bij de Griek'(At the Greek), which will run from 5 October to 14 November 2024.
